Wedding Traditions:The First Look

As I (Mary Ann) have had the opportunity to work so many different weddings, it has come to my attention that doing a ‘first look’ is becoming more and more common. The more traditional thing for a wedding is that the groom does not see his bride until those doors open and she walks down the aisle toward him. In today’s age, grooms are even going with their brides to pick out the wedding dress! I always thought the dress was to be one of the biggest surprises on the day of the wedding. In order to save time, it is becoming very common for the bride and groom to meet at a time before the ceremony, fully dressed, and see each other for the first time by themselves, instead of being surrounded by all their friends and family. This is a very intimate time between the couple that is shared between just the two of them. This way, it is easier to get a lot of the photos taken before the ceremony even begins so that they don’t spend so much time on pictures later on in the day. This makes it so that your guests aren’t waiting around for very long and you can mingle with them without having to worry about taking your photos because you’ve already gotten them out of the way! So the big question is, to do a first look or not to do a first look?

Sweet Love

Friday, April 6th, night of the rehearsal… First time I had ever spoke or met with Beth, the bride!!!! I had done all the planning through her mom, Christy! The beginning of February was the time I started working with Christy. We went over every detail and planned the wedding just the way Beth wanted it. I always found it a little odd that mom was handling everything but every now and again that happens! Needless to say Beth and Mark had such a sweet wedding on April 7th at the Opryland Hotel and moved over to Gaylord Springs for their reception! Everything had a peacock touch to it…centerpieces, flowers, jewelry, the cake, tuxes, even her dress had a peacock blue sash. They also took my advice and selected my preferred vendors! Trust me it helps make the day that much BETTER!!!! Take a look at some awesome photos Complete MVP captured!

A look back at the A Magical Affair teams 2012!

Greetings –

Well we have officially made it to 2013! It has definitely been a crazy year of ups and downs but we wouldn’t have it any other way! Honestly, the busier we are the better, we start to loose it otherwise!

If you’ve had the pleasure of working with our team you most likely know how crazy things have been! And we couldn’t have done it without all the help from our interns and our day of helpers!

Here’s a quick look back at the past 12 months!  As we look forward to what the next 12 hold!

In January, we planned an Ethiopian Reunion at Disney! We brought in several families who had adopted within the same organization and who many of the children remembered each other! It was the most heart warming thing to witness! With everything from Breakfast, lunch and dinner planned we had one of the most magical times!

One week after that Courtney and Jenn headed down to Tampa, FL for The Special Event. Out of thousands of entries, A Magical Affair was selected to bring to life the creative ideas of an “UP” themed wedding. The Special Event is the world’s premier conference and trade show for the top decision makers and trendsetters in the event planning industry. The week was filled with amazing brunches, lunches & dinners. A huge trade show floor full of vendors from all over! Educational classes and workshops filled the day! We are excited that Heather has designed a table top this year and was selected, so her and Courtney will be heading to Chicago this year to show off the design! For all the other middle TN vendors out there, now that next year, 2014, The Special Event will be here in Nashville!!!

We finally returned back to middle Tennessee after a long month in Florida, but hey we can’t complain the weather was beautiful!!! In February, we were in prime bridal show season! Engagement season was slowing down and we prepared to booked weddings left and right, with the help of the Perfect Wedding Guide bridal show! With hundreds of vendors there the atmosphere was so exciting and we were ready to rock-n-roll! Be sure to look for our bridal show tips in the up coming weeks and we hope to see you at the show February 17th at the Gaylord Opryland!

We marched right into the spring with 10 simple, relaxing, enjoyable couples! Great way to start out the wedding season! In April, we became fortunate enough to have our first King’s Chapel wedding. It was a great start to the 23 weddings we booked for the year.

We never really have a “off wedding season” but May definitely kicks us into full swing! With 15 weddings on the books we were ready to make each of them magical! So many beautiful couples we were surrounded by!

In June, Heather finally joined the team full time! She is now our lead coordinator for Kings’ Chapel! With so many DIY brides now, she really knows how to work with their vision and make sure it becomes a reality! July was one HOT month! We did our best to stay cool and we really needed to when a sudden change of events occurred with one of our weddings. Jenn Heather and the team, had to quickly become more than just coordinators! We became the set up crew, we had linen set up, we laid all the table settings, and then became servers! We had to arrange the food in a very specific order and replace when necessary. By the end of the night we were waste high in dishes! Definitely a night the team will never forget and of course we could not have pulled off another perfect day without them! The day was one big blur but we look back and laugh and say, “Well we can now add all those task to our resume!” haha :)

August wasn’t too busy but definitely kept us crazy, gearing up for the fall! We like to hire interns. Girls who are looking/thinking about getting into the event industry. However, we learned this past fall that we were a little too extreme for most of them! We went through 3 interns in 4 weeks! YES, four weeks! haha! And right before October hit! Which I know most planners and others in this industry had an extremely busy season as well, we like to say fall is the NEW wedding season! 24 weddings took us through October. Take a look back at the blog we wrote about those couples!

We were so excited we made it to November only to realize we were still busy! Courtney headed out to Denver for the ABC Conference where she was a speaker and accepted the role of State Coordinator for the Association of Bridal Consultants! While Heather & Jenn stayed here to clean and organize our inventory (boy is there a lot!).  Just look at the before and after photos! Contact us if you need any vases to rent! :)

Oh December, how did you sneak up on us?! With just as many weddings as we had in October, thankfully these are more spread out and we are not trying to coordinate 4 weddings on one weekend! Lot’s of winter wonderland weddings taking place! :) It’s so magical! And the three of us are getting ready to take some new company photo’s so be on the look out for that!

Well, that sums it up. It was a busy but great year and we hope we make next year even more MAGICAL!!!!!

Wishing you a most MAGICAL 2013

Courtney, Jenn and Heather!!

Flash back of October!

Greetings All –

WE MADE IT!!!!!!!! Through October that is! Everyone in this office was on edge going into October and stayed that way till the end! We had a few doubts about how we were going to pull it off but we did! All 20 weddings! Take a look back at our hectic wonderful October weddings! We enjoyed each and everyone of these couples and their families and now thats its over, well, I’m not to sure what we are going to do with ourselves!

Lets start from the beginning… October 2 we were honored to be apart of a sweet Vow Renewal on a Tuesday afternoon for Mary & Steven!

Skip to a few days after to October 6th, the first weekend to start the hectic 4 weddings on a Saturday! BOOM!

First one down the aisle Lauren Mann now Mrs. Lunsford! This couple was so sweet and funny! They had a beautiful ceremony at Gaylord Springs in the early afternoon with a reception following off site.

Lauren & Phillip 10.6.12

Second bride down the aisle was Natalie Palmer now Mrs. Axford! This young, sweet couple got married out in the beautiful Arrington, TN at the lovely Kings’ Chapel venue!

Natalie & Matthew 10.6.12

Third Couple down the aisle, Kristin & William Boyd! They too got married at Gaylord Springs with their reception following upstairs in the cluhouse! With close family and friends by their side they danced the night away with a sweet bubble send off!

And finally our fourth couple of the night to get hitched would be Cristy & Chris Dixon! With the perfect ceremony setting under the Crystal Gazebo inside the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, these newlyweds exchanged their vows. They then had their reception follow in the Magnolia Ballroon with the amazing sounds of a family friend blue grass band! Everyone was up dancing and mingling!

The following week was interesting and defintely threw us off…a wedding on Thursday! However, it couldn’t have been more perfect to work with this sweet couple, Tanya & Robert Bratz! They had a small gathering of close family and friends at the Lion’s Head Fountain, located inside Gaylord Opryland. They then enjoyed lunch at one of the amazing restaurants, Cascades. With the most perfect fall decor, Tanya & Robert had the best first fall wedding I had seen!

Tanya & John 10.11.12

With just enough time to sleep, we were up and moving down to Leipers Fork for another perfect fall wedding at Moonshine Hill Inn! Even with a mist of rain all day, the temperature was perfect. Ashley & Chip looked absolutely amazing while exchanging their vows under the small gazebo where their guests gathered! The unique thing that we loved was that instead of a wedding cake we had 8 different homemade pies!!!! (Which smelled and tasted DELICIOUS). They danced the night away under the open starry night!

Ashley & Chip 10.12.12

Again, with just enough time to sleep we all had early set up times and were ready to get 4 new brides down the aisle! Let’s start with Courtney out in Mt. Juliet on a family farm. After 6 months of working non stop on Rachel & Michael’s big day, Courtney was ready to make everything so magical! With a perfect ceremony backdrop of Old Hickory Lake , things were bound to stay magical the rest of the night and they did!

About 45 minutes south, out at Kings’ Chapel, Heather was having a blending of cultures wedding with the sweet Jo & Efraim! Everything was perfect! They even had their ceremony translated into Spanish so Efraims family could relate and understand! So sweet!

Then lets head another 30 minutes south to Spring Hill, where Jenn was sending Alexis down the aisle to marry her sweet Bryan! This couple had a very Victorian wedding! Everything from the venue at Rippavilla Plantation to Alexis’ dress to the old fashion tuxes the gentleman wore to the wedding cake! Absolutely a’dored them!!!!

Alexis & Bryan 10.13.12

Alright, moving right along to October 20th. Almost there….

Starting out the day at Kings’ Chapel, Heather was going to have a busy day with two weddings! She sent her first bride, Lauren down the aisle to marry her best friend Tim!

Lauren & Tim 10.20.12

With just enough time she flipped the space and sent the second bride, April down the aisle to marry Brandon!

April & Brandon 10.20.12

Meanwhile, Courtney was at lifepoint church making sure the sweet Brenda & Jared had the most magical day!

Brenda & Jared 10.20.12

Across town Jenn, had two as well. Working all day to set up Jackie & Shawn’s fabulous decor, she took a few hours to make sure Lisa and Thomas had the most perfect ceremony! They were so in love and definitely held on to the meaning of exchanging their vows! Once theirs wrapped up, she headed back to the Springs to finish final touches on the decor and to greet the bride and groom as they arrived for photos! Everything was exquisite, from the amazing floral to the personalized wine glasses each guest got to take home! Definitely enjoyed this couple and working with them on everything!

Lisa & Tom 10.20.12

Jackie & Shawn 10.20.12

One week later and we were ready to finish October out strong! So, I know I say all our couples are sweet and they really are but after this wedding I definitely gave Megan & Joe the sweetest couple award! They didn’t care about the dress, decor, music, etc all they cared about was that God had brought them together to live a happy life together! So precious!!!

Heading back down to Kings’ Chapel, Heather was ready to send her fabulous bride Katie down the aisle.

Meanwhile, Jenn was at Gaylord Springs waiting on the arrival of Tiffany & Kenneth! She had been planning with them since January and the night couldn’t have been more perfect! Lots of love and celebration with this group! This was a true love story! Be sure to keep watch for a blog post on them and their story! :)
